Changing Course

by Colin Angwin

Frederick never did find out what happened when he changed the course of history.

Frederick never did find out what happened when he changed the course of history.

Frederick told me that anybody could find all the bits needed to build a time-travel device and work out how to put them together, just by snooping around on the internet – anybody who understood enough science in the first place, that is. He had already done a little time-hopping on a minor scale – changing his mind about boiled eggs for breakfast after the event, that kind of thing.

Frederick never found out what happened when he changed the course of history because at that moment he disappeared as if he had never existed – which, of course, he now hadn’t. However, I was still there. As I discovered later, it hadn’t been my great grandmother standing on the pier at New York.
